Talented Womens Impact Programme





Audience This is suitable for established female managers (those with a minimum of 18 months management experience), including those with no direct line management responsibility, but whom are part of a wider team and who are required to influence and motivate others in their network.  



 
Duration 3 days     
Objectives This 5 month programme is designed to accelerate the development and promotion of high-potential women. It provides an intensive learning experience for those wishing to enhance performance, career prospects, increase effectiveness and achieve goals. Learning on this programme is supported by co-coaching, filming & playback, voice & body language coaching, skills based practice and discussion.
   
Content The programme is constructed to empower female leaders overcome unconscious gender bias, strengthen authority and presence, handle pressure confidently and hone interpersonal and communication skills.

At every stage of the programme relevant data and conceptual frameworks are presented followed by practical exercises to help embed the learning to real life situations. At the end of each session learners will be encouraged to identify personal action points, new behaviours and strategies to try out back in the office.

Key topics include;
• Women and leadership – unconscious bias, gender difference and why this programme is designed for women.
• Managing yourself under pressure – developing emotional intelligence and resilience.
• Generating and using your personal leadership brand.
• Having difficult conversations (including filmed role-plays)

Management in Action





Audience This is suitable for established managers, senior leaders, Postdoctoral Fellows (those with 18 months management experience), including those with no direct line management responsibility, but whom are managing projects and who are required to influence and motivate others in their network. 



 
 Duration 4.5 days (2 x 2 consecutive days and a half day follow up)     
 Objectives This highly interactive four day programme is designed to help managers be clear about their roles and responsibilities in delivering a vision through effective leadership. Learning on this programme is supported by personality psychometrics, skills based practice, discussion and case study review.  
   
 Content The programme includes an option of certificate endorsement from the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) and personality psychometric assessment. The programme will be focused on understanding the core skills and behaviours of leadership as you try new behaviours and skills in developing your team.

The programme consists of four modules:
• Module 1: Identifying as a leader. Your leadership style, your legacy and what holds you back. Understanding the link between our emotions, our behaviour and the results we get. Understanding what “triggers” our emotions and strategies for handling them. The key to changing behaviour.
• Module 2: Managing Others. Working effectively with people who think differently from you and understanding how to motivate. How to flex your behaviour in order to meet others’ needs. The key questions you should ask before trying to influence someone.
• Module 3: Team dynamics. Attitudes and beliefs of a high performing team. Situational Leadership and fostering creativity and decision making in a team.
• Module 4: Leadership communication. How to build trust in a team. Setting mutual expectations. Appreciation as an act of motivation. Listening skills and coaching skills. How to have a difficult conversation.

Aspiring Leaders in Science





Audience Postdoctoral Fellows and Staff Scientists who are advanced in their career and are considering progressing to the next step of the scientific ladder

 Objectives The Programme aims to:
• Present the major research group leader career routes available to advanced postdocs and staff scientists, including their scope and relative pros and cons
• Help participants better understand themselves in order to make informed career choices
• Increase self-understanding and self confidence
• Highlight and prepare for the challenges of the job application process, including negotiating the best starting package
• Develop scientific and support networks, generate new contacts Learning on this programme is supported by guest speakers, skills based practice and discussion.  
   
 Content This residential programme will outline various aspects of the career choices available and the skills needed for both application and success in different types of organisations.

You will have the opportunity to network with each other through activities and discussions. A key component of the programme is the contribution of a number of team leaders from industry, start-ups and academia. The invited speakers will candidly share their personal leadership stories, including both successes and challenges. Additionally, there will be an interactive dinner with invited team leaders from various research orientated organisations and sectors. Key topics include;
• Communication and influencing skills and strategies
• Negotiation skills and case study
• Understanding and managing oneself
• Situational leadership – developing an understanding of the techniques to get the best from others
• Careers guidance
• Talks from invited speakers who lead research groups in pharma, start-ups and academia
