Golden Triangle Partnership
The Golden Triangle Partnership is a collaboration between One Nucleus and the Oxfordshire Bioscience Network (OBN) to combine Cambridge, London and Oxford as Europe’s most active region in life sciences and healthcare. The aim of the partnership is to provide members of with access to potential partners and investors from other global centres of excellence.
One Nucleus members expressed a desire for us to develop strategic partnerships with other leading clusters so Harriet Fear, One Nucleus CEO, worked closely with Jon Rees of OBN to open doors with leading US clusters. Plans progressed at the 2009 BIO conference in Atlanta when a meeting between the GTP and the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council (MassBio) discussed the concept of formalising a relationship for the benefit of all members.
In October 2009 the GTP signed its first Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with MassBio to encourage and promote cooperation between members. The MOU confirmed a commitment to facilitate transatlantic investment and partnering by encouraging collaborations between each group's member companies. The GTP and MassBio promote each other's investment and partnering events, offering members reduced rates. “This is a significant partnership that brings together the trade groups for two of the world's largest life sciences clusters”, said Robert Coughlin, President & CEO of MassBio, “The UK is a recognized leader in drug discovery and development, and we are pleased to offer our members opportunities to collaborate and partner with some of UK's premier life sciences companies”.
A second MOU was signed in December 2009 with the Massachusetts Medical Device Industry Council (MassMEDIC), to actively encourage cooperation and collaboration between UK and US companies in the medical device sector.
At BIO in May 2010 the third MOU was signed with San Diego-based BioCom, the largest regional lifescience cluster in the world.
As the collaboration continues to grow we look forward to offering new and exciting opportunities for our members to enable them to do business in the global market.
