Lab Support Technician

Heptares Therapeutics is an established UK biotech company with world-class technology in structure-based drug design applied to discovery of novel small molecules acting through GPCRs.
 
The company works in collaboration with major global pharmaceutical companies on both small molecule and antibody discovery programmes, and is also developing its own pipeline of novel small molecules and peptides. The most advanced of these is now in Phase I clinical studies with others moving towards clinical development. The company is currently based in Welwyn Garden City, has approximately 100 employees, and has been operating for ten years. 
 
We are now seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated lab support technician, working in a small Operations team.
 
The role will include the following responsibilities:
 
  • Solvent, glassware and consumables coordination
  • Operation of autoclave and transfer of research waste streams
  • Lab coat laundry management
  • Assistance with goods-in and mail room, as required
  • Assistance with stock management
  • Housekeeping duties, including managing kitchen requirements
  • Processing lab notebooks
  • Actively work to improve systems and procedures for stock and waste management and other services
  • Assist the operations team when required with any ad-hoc tasks
 
Our preferred candidate will have the following skills:
 
  • Experience in stock management, is desirable
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills, are essential
  • Good level of computer literacy including familiarity with Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word
  • Hands-on approach and practical skills are essential (manual handling training will be provided)
  • A background in a scientific environment, particularly in life sciences, would be beneficial
  • Ability to be proactive and use initiative
  • Ability to successfully manage a varied workload and prioritise
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • The post holder will be responsible for adhering to all health & safety guidance, provided by the company
