BioWednesday London: Academic – Industry Collaboration: A 2-Way Validation Before Investing in Development

Reproducibility of biomedical research findings is a significant challenge in translational research but essential for validation to progress towards commercialisation.

Collaboration between Academia and Industry facilitates this process. Industry can probe findings relating to novel targets and models through their experience of developing robust assays and biomarkers, to demonstrate how an intervention may affect pathophysiology. In return, academic expertise in specific model systems and processes can assist industrial partners in exploring mechanism of action of new leads.

The Academy of Medical Sciences produced a comprehensive report in October 2015 on reproducibility issues http://www.acmedsci.ac.uk/viewFile/56314e40aac61.pdf. It proposes a number of recommendations and highlights that the complex nature of the problem makes it unsuited to a one size fits all approach.

After an introduction to the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) and the London BioScience Innovation Centre (LBIC), panellists at this event will discuss how they work with their counterparts to maximise the efficiency of translating those findings into better outcomes.
