M11 Health Enterprise Forum: Current Plans for Building Harlow’s Biomedical Cluster and What They Mean for the Area

17:30 - 20:00

Location:
Harlow Council, Civic Centre, The Water Gardens, Harlow, Essex. CM20 1WG
Date:
08 February 2017

Developments over the past 12 months in and around Harlow are resulting in the re-emergence of the town as a significant life sciences and healthcare location after a period of decline when companies such as GSK, MSD and others have downsized or relocated their R&D sites to pastures new.

It is not a wholly gloomy picture however. GSK still employs 350 staff in Harlow, Public Health England (PHE) is establishing its Science Hub on the North part of the GSK site in the coming years and together with the committed funding to develop Harlow Science Park in the Enterprise Zone, these all create an exciting combination for the future. Moreover, the decisions by related stakeholders to create a new data centre on Kao Park neighbouring Harlow Science Park and by Government to support Garden Town status for Harlow and Gilston Park, then infrastructure is set to enable the hub to grow.

The evening’s speakers will update attendees on progress by Harlow Science Park and PHE followed by a debate about how such progress can benefit the surrounding community and the London Stansted Cambridge Corridor.
